OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY
At BDI, our approach to sustainability extends beyond just materials; it’s about creating furniture that stands the test of time and minimizes environmental impact at every stage.
Built to Last Generations
One of the most sustainable choices we can make is to build furniture that lasts. At BDI, we prioritize durability and timeless design, ensuring that each piece can be enjoyed for generations. From the careful selection of materials to rigorous product testing, our furniture is engineered to stand the test of time, reducing the need for replacements and minimizing waste.
Zero-Waste Manufacturing
We incorporate sustainable practices throughout our manufacturing process. Our furniture is crafted using a mix of solid wood, veneers, and composite cores. By using hardwood-veneered composite panels made with recycled wood, we reduce our demand for virgin timber while maintaining a natural, high-quality appearance. Additionally, elements like our removable back panels and some drawer liners are made from recycled PET, further minimizing our environmental footprint.
Sustainable Sourcing
We have consciously narrowed our wood species to American Ash, Oak, and Walnut, sourced from well-managed forests in the U.S. Wood is a natural material, and we celebrate its unique characteristics. To avoid waste, we offer both light and dark finishes on these woods. This approach allows us to utilize a wider range of wood with unique grains and hues, avoiding unnecessary discards. In less visible areas, we use finger-jointed solids from wood cutoffs that might otherwise be wasted.
Thoughtful Packaging
Our commitment to sustainability also extends to our packaging. We use recycled paper and have reduced the plastic content in our packaging to less than 4% by volume, on average. This not only protects our furniture but also ensures that we minimize our impact on the environment.
We are continuously exploring new ways to reduce our carbon footprint, including researching low-carbon delivery strategies, optimizing supply chain efficiency, and further innovating our design and manufacturing processes. As we move forward, our commitment remains to create furniture that not only enhances your home but also contributes to a more sustainable future.
